SCCOOS
Overview
The SIO Visualization Center is producing visualizations for the Southern California Ocean Observing System (SCCOOS), an organization that aims to synthesize its observations into products that will provide a scientific basis for evaluating and improving management and guardianship of, and response to the ocean environment and its resources. The SIO VizCenter contributes high resolution interactive 3D visualizations of Southern California's coastal region and modelling of various sensors in use by SCCOOS.
Projects
Huntington Beach 2006
SCCOOS is undertaking a study of the Huntington Beach region by deploying a variety of sensors in the area. The SIO Visualization Center has produced an interactive scene file that combines bathymetry, aerial photography and 3D models of the instruments and animations that show the operation of the instruments.
Southern California Coastal Bathymetry
SCCOOS has published a resource for geographic data, sensor locations, and satellite imagery of the Southern California Coastal region. The SIO Visualization Center has produced high resolution interactive 3D visualizations of this region's bathymetry.
Acknowledgment
These visualizations were created by Dane Samilo, Thomas Im, Jennifer Matthews, Lisa Hazard, Atul Nayak, and Carolyn Keen. The Center for Earth Observations and Applications (CEOA) sponsored the visualization work with partial funding from the San Diego Foundation's Blasker Science and Technology grant and the NSF funded LOOKING project.
