Dr. Graham Kent introducing the competition

The Visualization Center competition turned out to be a great success, with original presentations from 10 graduate students. The competition was close, but there was a clear winner, Kurt Schwehr, who impressed all the judges with his great dataset. Runners-up [in no particular order] were Allison Jacobs and Jeff Dingler. The lucky winners took home an Apple iPod each.

Presenting to a packed audience, there were 10 presentations in total. The IGPP competitors were Jeff Dingler, Eric Hallenborg, Alison Hindley, Allison Jacobs, Kerry Key, Vince Morton, Jose Otero, Christina Reif, Fiona Sutherland, and Kurt Schwehr.

All the judges were impressed with the quality of the presentations and the oratory skills of the speakers. The talks covered a range of interests, from the topography of Mars, to active tectonics in Lake Tahoe and from seismicity in Southern California to the topography of Baja Califonria.
