SIO Visualization Center Competition
Each year in October Scrips Institution of Oceanography holds a Competition for the graduate students at UCSD. Click on the links below to view past events.
SIO VizCenter 2005 Competition
The 2005 Student Visualization Competition took place in the SIO Visualization Center on Friday 14th October. There were a total of 10 entries from the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics to Climate Research Division to the Geosciences Research Division. Once again the judges and audience were impressed with both the high standard of the presentations and the visualizations themselves.
SIO VizCenter 2004 Competition
The 3rd annual Graduate Student Visualization competition was held on October 22nd, 2004 at 1pm with a break for the Friday afternoon seminar from 3pm to 4pm. This years contest was open to any SIO graduate student - the top prizes included 3 iPod Mini's, and 5 xbox's.
SIO VizCenter 2003 Competition
The 2003 student visualization competition was once again a great success! A total of 9 students entered from the SIO campus, with impressive and novel visualizations of their research data. Dr. Graham Kent was the M.C. again this year; however four new judges were selected for the tough job of assessing the entries. Many thanks to Steve Cutchin (SDSC), Neal Driscoll (GRD, SIO), Jennifer Matthews (IGPP, SIO), and Dave Sandwell (IGPP, SIO) for their excellent judging.
SIO VizCenter 2002 Competition
The Visualization Center competition turned out to be a great success, with original presentations from 10 graduate students. The competition was close, but there was a clear winner, Kurt Schwehr, who impressed all the judges with his great dataset. Runners-up [in no particular order] were Allison Jacobs and Jeff Dingler. The lucky winners took home an Apple iPod each.
